Kung Hei Fat Choi! Happy Lunar New Year!
I went to Japan last week. It was wonderful! Lots of exploring; eating superb food (ramen, ramen and more ramen); drinking plenty of sake; and I even bumped into an old colleague that I haven’t seen in nearly ten years. Who would have thought it?
Prior to the trip, I decided that I would take a break from social media, or just specifically, Substack. It might sound a bit pretentious to say that you’re taking a break from social media, but it seems as though I have come back from trip feeling lighter. I’d recommend it. Plus, that reflex of hitting the Substack app whenever I unlocked my phone has diminished. (I still used my phone while I was away, but was far more interested in looking up the news/medals table for the Winter Olympics on BBC Sport.)
Perhaps inevitably, I’m now experiencing the physical and psychological disconnect from largely having set my own agenda and pace (along with my husband) over the holiday, to one that is dictated by my job, that of course, helps me pay for trips like Japan.
Anyway, I also took some photos, which I am steadily going through as well as some from around Hong Kong before LNY. Therefore, I’ll be back soon with something more substantial.
