Thanks for signing up to The Best of Intentions. A new offering from today, in the form of Friday Treats 🎁
While I was still working in education, some schools operated a weekly staff event called Friday treats. Here, a colleague would offer to bring in some biscuits, cake, or they might share a nice range of tea, and the event often helped bring staff together who you may not see all that much otherwise. So, the intention here is to do something similar.
However, in the place of biscuits and cake, in this newsletter, Friday treats will take the form of cultural highlights including book recommendations, podcasts, articles, Substack shares, and other observations. But I might throw some other random things in there.
I hope that you enjoy this and please share your own treats too.
After seeing the Taylor Swift ERAs tour at the cinema last weekend, her lockdown albums, ‘folklore’ and ‘evermore’ have been on rotation. They kinda passed me by at the time. Loving the beauty of this song in particular:
I wrote about burnout earlier this week, and found myself reading lots about how other people have experienced this, including some people here on Substack -
& 💰. And on a related point, there is an episode from late October about burnout on the fantastic podcast ‘Best Friend Therapy’ from Elizabeth Day and Emma Reed Turrell. Here they share their own experiences and consider how therapy can support those going through it.Finally, I have just started watching the last series of BBC’s Ghosts. I binged all of the previous series last year and may start watching them again tbh once it’s over 😢
