The creative process is messy and quite exhausting at times, isn't it? Especially with a project as big as a novel. Resting and, I am finding, respecting the process are crucial.

You're spot on, the messiness and fatigue that goes along with thinking creatively, or just using our brains and attention to focus on things.

At times, we just have to stop and refill our cups :)

I took a break from Substack because everyone else was taking a break! Hahahhaa. And now I'm forced to due to the insanity of work! Just got to go with it, xo

I did notice a few other writers also taking breaks and sharing this on Substack - perhaps that prompted me to consider it haha.

Also, I wonder if it's a teacher thing? I have been conditioned over decades to think of the summer as a holiday and as a time to down tools for a bit!

Hope that you feel more rested after a break. I am looking forward to being a reader on Substack for a little while, without that thought at the back of my mind of 'Have you finished your post yet?'

Scrap books, images and story cards all help and it’s so much fun to do the above! Good luck with all your writing Sarah.

Thanks Shital - and those are brilliant ideas! I have been thinking about using images for a while and so creating a scrap-book of sorts may help me reset things a little bit. I think my brain does need a rest because of some of the other work that I am doing at that moment (which I can't take a break from), so I am looking forward to having some fun with the creative stuff. And hopefully, going out to do some more photography too!
