Viet Nam is in my top 3 countries too, right next to Italia and Poland. I feel so fortunate to have spent 3 months there in 2018. I also had a job lined up at a school in 2020 for a year long contract. Well, you can guess what happened to that. Lol. I'm still hoping to go back long term.

Beautiful photos. I think you got the hang of your photography class. Where were you located? Ha Noi or Sai Gon?

I was based in Sai Gon. I returned last year for a long weekend, it was only the second time I’d been back since I left, and it felt both familiar and completely different. Same, crazy traffic though 😄 sorry to hear that the pandemic scuppered your teaching plans. Hopefully, that was only temporary and you’ll get back there soon. I’d really like to explore more of the north, including Ha Noi. Where were you based when you were there in 2018?

That's a long way for only a long weekend. Well, I should say for me in eastern US it is. I have not been back since my initial visit and am anxious to go again. Ok this sounds back. I didn't really care about the teaching part, I was looking for a way to stay there for a full year and see what it was like really living there and that included having a job. I didn't know what other type of job I could get as an American. If you have any suggestions especially since you have lived there, please let me know.

I was not based out of anywhere. Normally when I travel I stay in one place for a month or more, this time I traveled down the coast because there were many areas I wanted to see. Ha Noi, Da Nang, Hoi An, Da Lat, Quy Nhon, Mui Ne, Phu Quoc, Sai Gon. Hoi An and Da Nang were my favorites. I would gladly go back to either long term.

Good point, I’m not sure what else I could have done for a job in Vietnam besides teaching! When I was living there, there was a policy of prioritising employment for the local Vietnamese (a friend of mine who’s partner was on a spousal visa and who wasn’t a teacher applied for a few jobs and this was explained to him at the time).

You travelled so much during your time there. I enjoyed going to Mui Ne! I went there a few times with friends over a weekend.

But I’m also a bit worried to go back to some places as I fear everything will have changed so much that the memories that my memories will have warped, and I almost recognise places.

I love Vietnam, too! I lived there for a few months in 2013 and, like you, it has a special place in my heart. Thanks for sharing these wonderful pictures, Sarah!

These are amazing photos. It definitely makes me want to go back and explore the country further. I love the last photo, I never thought you could pack so much on to the back of a bike🤣 x

Thank you for the feedback ☺️ Whereabouts did you go in Vietnam?

It’s mad how much stuff and people can fit on the back of a bike. I remember once seeing six people on one, it didn’t look that comfortable 😆
