I just watched that whole breaking video!๐Ÿ˜‚ I know just what you mean, how events/smells/songs etc can transport us right back to another time in our lives and different versions of our selves. Hope you're enjoying the summer, Sarah.

The individuals in the breaking video are amazing. I have no idea how it could be scored, but then I have never done any dancing like that before haha! Hope you are enjoying your summer too :)

Thanks for your post; I enjoyed it! The Olympic Games always bring me back to a certain period of time. London 2012 was one that I always regretted since I had to leave London just to witness the whole preparation for it.

I completely agree about feeling like certain events taking you back to a particular time (or sense of self too). I think what was interesting about 2012 was largely how cynical a lot of the press was or it feltโ€ฆ and then the opening ceremony largely blew peopleโ€™s minds ๐Ÿ˜‚

I watched a lot of the Tokyo events on the TV, but then the time worked perfectly for Hong Kong. I think a large chunk of things will be viewed on catch up with the time difference to Paris.

I felt this even more because I lived in the host country. Still, the pandemic had led to many last-minute discussions about whether the Tokyo Olympics would be held and whether spectators would be allowed to attend.

When the Games finally got underway, the athletes performed beyond expectations, and the negative atmosphere that had swirled around the event before it was held was blown away. It may sound ironic, but the lower the initial expectations, the easier it is to appreciate the results.

I remember being a bit sceptical about the London 2012 Olympics in the build up because it seemed like so much money was being spent in the city on it, but as soon as it started I was transfixed and changed my mind completely! I wished weโ€™d got tickets. Iโ€™m so excited for the Paris olympics to start and will be switching between the French and English coverage here in France.

I love that advice to your past self! ๐Ÿงก

I remember thinking the same thing, and my parents especially (love them!) but they were somewhatโ€ฆ critical. Then as soon as the opening ceremony was over, they were all over it. And they still talk about how wonderful the day was at Wimbledon, especially how well organised and helpful the stewards were.

It will be really interesting to watch the French coverage. I did read that the opening ceremony is not taking place in a stadium, and it will all be on the Seine!
